Outboard Winterization and Storage

Home > Service > Engine Winterization and Storage

Winterizing your engine is absolutely critical in preserving the value of your boat. Winterizing on a yearly basis will help protect your motor from freezing and cracking and largely reduce the number of issues you will have when you put your boat back in the water. Our factory trained technicians take the utmost care and most quality products when preparing your engine for the winter.

Outboards in StorageWe store outboard motors up to 35 H.P inside in a dry, heated area. We suggest that any motor larger than 35 H.P be winterized and left on the boat. We recommend that you always run the fuel out of the carburetor of your 2-stroke motor before storing, while this is not recommended for 4-stroke motors.

When we winterize your engine, we:
-Change the lower unit oil
-Fog the powerhead with oil
-Clean the lower unit

We also offer a deluxe winterization in which we add the following steps:
-Replace two lower unit drain gaskets
-Pressure test lower unit for leaks
-Remove prop and inspect prop seal
-Grease prop shaft
-Visually inspect lower unit housing
-Grease all external fittings
