SUPPORT OUR VETERANS
During the month of July 2009, we will match contributions made to Honor Flight Network at Charles Mill and Pleasant Hill Marinas, up to $250. This organization transports America's veterans to Washington D.C. to visit those memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices. In July of 2008, Charles Mill Marina's 30-year employee, Russell Patterson, had the opportunity to experience the Honor Flight Network's one-day tour to Washington D.C., including the World War II Memorial.
Russell served as a radio operator in a B-17 bomber, and completed 35 missions over Germany during World War II. He also flew fuel re-supply missions from India over the Himalaya Mountains into China. On his Honor Flight tour, Russell met with U.S. Senator Bob Dole, and was chosen to present the flag during the ceremony at the World War II Memorial. The day was a moving and unforgettable experience. We appreciate and honor Russell for his service to our country.

The goal of Honor Flight Network is to assist every single veteran in America, willing and able to get on a plane or a bus, to visit THEIR memorial. Top priority is given to America's most senior heroes - survivors of World War II and any veteran with a terminal illness who wishes to visit THEIR memorial.

The program will naturally transition to Korean War,Vietnam War and all other veterans who served, on a chronological basis. Since America felt it was important to build a memorial to the service and the ultimate sacrifice of her veterans, the Honor Flight Network believes it's equally important that they actually get to visit and experience THEIR memorial.
